Poeltl named Naismith Trophy semifinalist

SALT LAKE CITY — Sophomore Jakob Poeltl has been named a semifinalist for the Naismith Trophy, which is awarded to the best college basketball player in the nation.

Poeltl, who is currently averaging 17.6 points and 9 rebounds per game, is one of 10 semifinalists for the award, joining Duke's Grayson Allen, Virginia's Malcolm Brogdon, Providence's Kris Dunn, Oklahoma's Buddy Hield, North Carolina's Brice Johnson, LSU's Ben Simmons, Kentucky's Tyler Ulis, Iowa's Jarrod Uthoff, and Michigan State's Denzel Valentine.

All 10 of the semifinalists for the Naismith Trophy are also finalists for the Oscar Robertson Trophy, which were released Monday.
