Motivated by Marsden's absence, Utes gymnasts get first-ever win at Stanford

STANFORD — In its first test on a three-week road trip, fifth-ranked Utah gymnastics defeated No. 12 Stanford for the first time in Maples Pavilion, 197.150-195.875, tying its season-high score.

It marks the fourth-straight week the Red Rocks (6-1, 4-1 Pac-12) have finished with a score of at least 197. The big scores help Utah because starting Monday, the national rankings shift from total season average to regional qualifying scores. A team's regional qualifying score is obtained by taking the six best scores — three of which must come on the road — dropping the high score and then averaging the remaining five scores.
