Locals in the Super Bowl: Cougars' Van Noy, Utes' Rowe play role in Patriots' comeback

HOUSTON — Quarterback Tom Brady won his fifth Super Bowl title with a 34-28 overtime victory over the Atlanta Falcons at NRG Stadium on Sunday night.

But he got a little bit of help from a pair of former local college football standouts.

Former BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy sacked Matt Ryan at the end of the third quarter, when his Patriots trailed 28-9.

Who? Yeah, that guy.

Former Utah defensive back Eric Rowe had a pass breakup on the Patriots’ first defensive stand of the second half, trailing 21-3. The Super Bowl in Houston was a full-circle move for the former high schooler from Spring, Texas.
