Late mistakes doom Utah in 28-24 loss to Washington State

SALT LAKE CITY — Washington State quarterback Gardner Minshew connected on a 89-yard touchdown pass to Easop Winston with just over 5 minutes left in the game to eventually claim a victory over the visiting Utah Utes, 28-24.

Utah led 24-21 coming into the fourth quarter, but several penalties cost Utah the game, including a punt return touchdown by Britain Covey that was called back for a block in the back. With just over 1 minute left to play, a false start and holding penalty negated two first-down plays by Utah.

Utah and Washington State traded points in the first half, with each team scoring 21 points going into halftime.
