SALT LAKE CITY — The Runnin’ Utes basketball team saw their season end with a disappointing loss to the Gonzaga Bulldogs in Denver on Saturday night. The Utes fell short of last season's run to the Sweet 16, being eliminated prematurely in the round of 32.
The loss likely signals the end of one of the most improbable careers in Utes history, that of Jakob Poeltl, the once unheralded recruit from Austria who quickly became a projected lottery pick for the 2015 NBA draft had he left after his freshman year.
Poeltl opted to return to Utah in an attempt to raise his already high draft stock, and he appears to have succeeded.
