Jakob Poeltl named Oscar Robertson Trophy finalist

SALT LAKE CITY — The U.S. Basketball Writers Association announced its finalists for the Oscar Robertson Trophy Monday, with Utah center Jakob Poeltl included in the list.

Poeltl, who is averaging 17.6 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.5 blocks per game, is one of 11 men's basketball players from around the country named as a finalist for the national player of the year award. Poeltl is the only one from the Pac-12 named as a finalist for the award.

The finalists include Duke guard Grayson Allen, Virginia guard Malcolm Brogdon, Providence guard Kris Dunn, Oklahoma guard Buddy Hield, Kentucky guard Tyler Ulis, Michigan State guard Denzel Valentine, North Carolina forward Brice Johnson, Iowa State forward Georges Niang, LSU forward Ben Simmons and Iowa forward Jarrod Uthoff.
