Jakob Poeltl declares for NBA draft

SALT LAKE CITY — In news that surprises few, sophomore center Jakob Poeltl declared for the upcoming NBA draft Wednesday at a press conference held at the University of Utah.

Poeltl, a projected lottery pick, made mention of his inevitable departure late in the season, saying he was “leaning towards it” but that his mind wasn’t completely made up. His now former head coach Larry Krystkowiak, too, indicated that Poeltl was likely leaving and that it was “safe to make the assumption he may not be around.”

Following Utah’s disappointing exit against Gonzaga in the NCAA Tournament, where Poeltl only managed five points and four rebounds, many speculated that his draft stock would take a hit from his poor performance.
