Former Utah goalkeeper says career-ending concussion marked a change for the good

SALT LAKE CITY — For former Ute goalkeeper Molly Poletto, the day still starts with soccer training. She considers herself lucky to be part of the sport she loves, working regularly with University of Utah women as the goalkeeper coach.

Still, her history of concussions is never far away.

“I have some physical symptoms. I have the daily headaches,” Poletto said.

Molly was just 9 or 10 years of age when a skateboarder slammed her to the concrete at a Colorado skate park. That marked the first of what would eventually become at least eight documented concussions — most from playing soccer as a teenager in Colorado.
