Football. Tom Hackett Clinches Position on Consensus All-America Team

SALT LAKE CITY--

Utah senior punter Tom Hackett will be announced as a consensus All-American by the NCAA on Thursday after today’s selection to the Sporting News’ first team. Hackett will become the first two-time consensus All-American in school history, having also made the team in 2014.

Five teams count toward consensus All-American and Hackett clinched a berth early by making the first four released (first-team Walter Camp, AP, FWAA and Sporting News). Should he make the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) team—issued tomorrow—he will add ‘unanimous’ to his title. Hackett, the 2014 and 2015 Ray Guy Award winner as the country’s best punter, has also been named a USA Today, Sports Illustrated and ESPN.
