SURPRISE, Ariz. – The Utah baseball team dropped its season opener, 6-1, to Minnesota on Friday evening.

The Utes struggled on offense with just two hits on the night, recorded by Josh Rose and Dallas Carroll.

On the mound, Jayson Rose pitched six innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts. Josh Lapiana made his Utah debut, throwing 1 2/3 innings and surrendering one run and three hits while Trenton Stoltz struck out the only batter he faced in the ninth.
