BERKELEY, Calif. - Behind three home runs and the strong arm of Jayson Rose on the mound, the Utah baseball team defeated California, 8-3, to open the three-game series against the Golden Bears.
Utah took a 3-0 lead in the second inning with the help of a two-run home run. Leading 5-2 after five innings, the Utes also added three insurance runs in the seventh. Cal made a late rally in the ninth for a run before the Utes closed out the game.
Jayson Rose threw eight innings, allowing two runs on six hits with six strikeouts on the night.
