Cedar City • Weber State recovered from a slow start and took a 30-13 victory over Southern Utah in second round of the FCS playoffs Saturday night at Eccles Stadium.
SUU’s record crowd of 11,811 watched the Thunderbirds take a 10-0 lead in the first quarter before Weber State came to the life and dominated the postseason version of the rivalry.
The Wildcats (11-2) will advance to a quarterfinal game at No. 1 seed James Madison next Saturday, after producing the second home loss in three seasons for SUU (9-3). Weber State took command of the game behind the work of quarterback Stefan Cantwell and a defense that shut down SUU’s offense after the first two possessions.
