Ogden • Viewmont used a 13-0 run over the course of the second and third periods Monday night to pull away for a 73-55 win over Springville in the opening round of the Class 5A boys’ basketball state tournament at the Dee Events Center.
The Vikings opened the second half with consecutive 3-pointers from Chandler Cox and Spencer MacKay to extend the lead to 35-21. The Red Devils, the defending Class 4A state champions, never got closer than eight points the rest of the night.
“We came out as seniors and were like we didn’t want to go home,” said MacKay, who finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
