Shutdown restricts air traffic in New York, but Salt Lake City International hasn’t been affected — yet

The ongoing partical shutdown of the federal govermentforced flight restrictions at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Friday, but operations at Salt Lake City International remain unaffected.

“We have no non-stop flights to LaGuardia, so that hasn’t affected us directly,” said airport spokeswoman Nancy Volmer. “But we’re keeping an eye on it.”

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a statement that because of a “slight increase in sick leaves,” it had “temporarily” restricted flights in and out of LaGuardia. “We’ve mitigated the impact by augmenting staffing, rerouting traffic and increasing spacing between aircraft when needed. The results have been minimal impacts to efficiency while maintaining consistent levels of safety in the national airspace system.
