Augusta, Ga. • Tony Finau played the front nine in 2-over par Friday in the second round of the Masters, but gained ground in relation to the lead at Augusta National Golf Club.
The Lehi resident bogeyed Nos. 1 and 6 and failed to make a birdie on the opening nine, thanks partly to errant drives that kept him from going for the green in two shots on the two par 5, Nos. 2 and 8. Finau played the front nine in 3-under par Thursday on his way to a 68.
The good news is other contenders who teed off Friday morning also have had their troubles.
