Nearly 200 teachers in Salt Lake City School District protest salary increases by walking out of a public meeting where they weren’t allowed to speak

Some of their signs were made from used manila folders. A few were written in pencil on pieces of lined paper. One was laminated. Another was covered in gold star stickers.

That’s the raise nearly 200 teachers asked for Tuesday night as they filled every seat in front of the Salt Lake City board of education. They weren’t allowed to speak at the public meeting. So with their signs, they made their opinions known as best they could.

“It’s a silent protest,” Chelsie Acosta said afterward. The educator, who teaches eighth grade at Glendale Middle School, added: “Teachers are doing more than ever before.
