Minor earthquakes centered near Bluffdale shake things up early Friday

Thousands of Utahns were all shook up early Friday morning as a pair of earthquakes struck just south of Herriman.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the first, which struck at 5:02 a.m., registered a 3.2 on the Richter scale. The second quake, which struck at 5:09 a.m., was stronger, registering a 3.7. The USGS put the epicenters 2 kilometers south of Bluffdale, 8.8 kilometers deep.

The quakes were felt across southern Salt Lake and northern Utah Counties, but initial reports of damage were minor — items knocked off shelves and minor cracks in walls and floors.
