My name is Julie Castle. I am the CEO of Best Friends Animal Society and a proud Utahn. My great grandfather, David Marshall Stuart, arrived in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847 with the first wave of pioneers. Since then my family has called this great state of Utah home.
I’m writing this to state Best Friends’ opposition to the Southern Red Sands (SRS) mining operation near Kanab. The proposed mine would place the health and quality of life of our community at great risk and jeopardize the viability of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, the county’s largest employer.
