Draper police think driver may have intentionally struck 11-year-old on electric scooter

Police are investigating to see if a driver purposely hit a child riding an electric scooter Friday morning in Draper.

The 11-year-old was hit by a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta just before 8:30 a.m. near 15050 S. Winged Bluff Lane. Police say the car’s driver was heading north and turned into the child, who was riding the scooter south, Draper police said in a news release.

“The initial investigation suggests this may have been an intentional act,” the release states.

The child was taken to the hospital in serious condition. The car’s driver, who has only been identified as a man, was also taken to the hospital.
