Centerville police officer dies of injuries suffered in motorcycle accident

The Centerville Police Department is mourning the death of one of its officers, who succumbed to injuries suffered in an off-duty motorcycle accident on Sept. 23.

Jason Read, 40, “unexpectedly passed away” Tuesday at Mackay-Dee Hospital, according to Centerville Police. He was airlifted there when he was struck by a car while riding his personal motorcycle on Antelope Drive near 2200 West.

Read, a married father of three, joined the Centerville Police Department in 2005. He served as a K-9 officer for three years and was also assigned to the problem-oriented policing unit, working on a variety of community crime related issues.
