Freshman Ava Schwienteck has led the women’s golf team with her character and work ethic throughout its inaugural season.
While she has exceeded her own expectations, golf director Stuart Deane said he’s not surprised with what she’s done so far, because he knew she was going to be a great athlete when he recruited her.
“When you’ve watched golf for 30 years, you kind of see some attributes that stand out,” he said.
In the program’s first-ever tournament, Schwienteck led the team and tied for fifth, going 2 under par at the USA Intercollegiate. The following tournament, she posted another top-10 finish, tying for sixth at 5 over par at the ORU Shootout.
