The Lady Mavericks held on to their undefeated record after surviving a 74-70 battle with Wichita State University Sunday at College Park Center.
“Really proud of our kids for getting it up and kind of grinding it out,” head coach Krista Gerlich said. “It wasn’t pretty by any means, certainly not our best basketball, but at the same time it did show a lot of fight and a lot of composure.”
Both teams got off to a slow start. UTA kept the ball from Wichita State during the first minute but went 0-5 from the floor. The Lady Mavericks were the first to reach double digits once junior guard Cierra Johnson finished a layup with four minutes remaining in the first quarter.
