The Lady Mavericks had some highs during the winter break, but ultimately never strung together enough wins to separate themselves from the pack.
“Everybody has to be firing on all cylinders,” head coach Krista Gerlich said of her team in a www.utamavs.com press release. “It is really early in the season. We have to keep getting better, keep working on our game and try to get tougher.”
• Jan. 16: Sophomore center Rebekah Van Dijk’s 20 point, 12 rebound effort was not enough for UTA as they fell to Southern Alabama 59-55. The teams went into the final minute tied at 55 but the Mavs did not execute on a couple of missed 3-pointers and an inbound pass as the Jaguars converted four free throws to seal the win.
