Women break through athletic stereotypes

Routinely used as an insult on playgrounds, playing ‘like a girl’ has never been less of an insult than now.

American women have been finding success around the world of sports. The U.S. women’s national hockey team won gold in February at the Winter Olympics and the U.S. women’s national soccer team won the World Cup in 2015.

Evidence such as this points to the shift in culture toward welcoming women in sports.

Krista Gerlich, UTA women’s basketball head coach, who was a shooting guard on the 1993 national champion Texas Tech University team, grew up around the sport.
