The volleyball team (5-5) dropped its Maverick Classic opener and fourth straight match to the University of California, Davis 3-1 on Thursday at College Park Center.
The Mavericks won the first set with a seven-point run, capped off with a kill by senior outside hitter Qiana Canete to win the set 25-14. Canete and sophomore outside hitter Madison McConnell contributed four kills each in the set.
In the second set, UC Davis jumped to a 12-3 lead. The Mavericks rallied back to tie the set at 21 after a kill from junior middle blocker Zhanelle Geathers.
That was the last point UTA would score in the set as UC Davis scored the next four points, winning 25-21.
