The Lady Mavericks (5-1) were handed their first loss of the season as they fell to the University of Utah (5-1) 71-41 on Monday in Salt Lake City.
The Lady Mavericks trailed from the start after a 9-0 run by the Utes and at the end of the first quarter 17-4. Offensively, the Lady Mavericks shot 29.2 percent for the opening half and finished from the field, shooting 32.7 percent for the game.
In the second quarter, the Lady Mavericks scored 13 points, but the Utes took a 36-17 lead to halftime.
Junior foward Daiane Machado came off the bench and contributed 10 points on 5-10 shooting, her second double-digit scoring performance of the season.
