The UTA Softball team tipped of its season, going 3-1 at the LSU Tournament this weekend in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
On Friday, opening up the tournament, the Mavericks topped Syracuse University 1-0. UTA’s lone run came in the second off of an RBI double from junior outfielder Cy’Andria Newton.
Next up, the Mavericks faced No. 8 Louisiana State University. Senior infielder Sandra Mendoza delivered a two-RBI single up the middle to put the Mavericks ahead 2-0 in the second. LSU responded with two runs of its own at the bottom of the inning to knot the game.
