Coming off of its first-ever National Invitational Softball Championship, the softball team was projected to finish in third place, the league announced Wednesday in its Sun Belt Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.
UTA edged out Texas State for the projection of third place. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette was tabbed as the unanimous favorite while Troy University followed behind in second.
Individually, two seniors were named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Team: infielder Whitney Walton and catcher Reagan Wright.
Walton led the team in many statistical categories last season, including slugging percentage with .562% and runs scored with 66.
