The men’s basketball team (9-6) dropped to 0-2 in the Sun Belt Conference standings after suffering an 80-76 loss to Appalachian State University on Sunday in North Carolina.
An offensive outburst in the first half had the Mavericks down by 22 after the Mountaineers went on a 25-7 run. A couple free throws made by senior guard Kaelon Wilson and graduate student center Johnny Hamilton closed out the half for the Mavericks.
At the break, Appalachian State owned a 20-point lead. The Mountaineers held senior forward Kevin Hervey to five points and senior guard Erick Neal to one assist in the half.
