The Shorthorn: file photoThe UTA Lady Mavericks (8-6, 2-1) began the new year in the win column after defeating the defending Sun Belt Conference champions, the Troy University Trojans (7-7, 2-1) 76-57 on Thursday at College Park Center.
The Lady Mavericks took advantage from the opening tip-off jumping out to a 9-0 lead, which was highlighted by a couple of jumpers from senior center Rebekah VanDijk and a 3-pointer from sophomore guard Aysia Evans.
