The UTA Lady Mavericks (5-0) remain undefeated on the season after downing California State University, Fresno 67-54 on Friday at College Park Center.
The Lady Mavericks started the game slow as they trailed midway through the first quarter 10-8. After head coach Krista Gerlich called a timeout, the team ended the quarter on a 14-2 run, highlighted by scoring from senior center Rebekah VanDijk and junior point guard Laurynn McGowen.
Gerlich said she called the first timeout to talk about the team’s defense. The message was well-received, as the Bulldogs ended up shooting 29.2 percent from the floor.
