On a brisk spring evening, the baseball team (6-9, 0-0) defeated Minnesota by a score of 13-5.
After an early run by Minnesota, the Mavericks were down 0-1 until junior catcher Jakob Nunez sent a pitch down the left field line for a two-run home run.
Nunez said he was very excited after hitting the home run, his career first.
“I didn’t know it was going out at first,” Nunez said. “I thought I had a good piece.”
Minnesota tied the game 2-2 with a run in the third, and that’s where the score remained until an explosive seven run inning by the Mavericks, which brought their lead to 9-2.
