UTA baseball knocks off No. 23 Dallas Baptist University

Sparked by freshman infielder Phillip Childs’ first career hits, the baseball team (19-17) bested No. 23 Dallas Baptist University 7-2 on Tuesday at Clay Gould Ballpark.

“It’s been a while, they’ve had our number,” head coach Darin Thomas said. “It starts on the mound, we pitched it well tonight. The big thing was we got some two-out hits to score runs.”

The Patriots opened the game with a home run to right field to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Mavericks responded with a two-out RBI double from senior outfielder Phil Berthiaume to tie the game at 1-1.
