In a sport where milliseconds can be the difference between sweet victory and agonizing defeat, the last-second, nail-biter finish of the 2018 Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships fits right in.
The meet was a mixed bag for the Mavericks. Individual athletes performed at their highest level, setting some personal and conference records, but ultimately, the teams could not finish the job. The men finished in second place with 143 points, just two behind the first place Arkansas State University team, and the women finished third with 85 points.
“I thought it was a great meet,” head coach John Sauerhage said.
