Tipping off its Sun Belt Conference opener, the men’s basketball team (9-5, 0-1) fell 90-65 to Coastal Carolina University on Friday at the HTC Center in Conway, South Carolina.
Coastal Carolina used a 13-5 run in the first half to take charge, never allowing UTA to lead.
The teams tied once at 22 with 6:27 remaining, but the Chanticleers soon extended their advantage.
At the break, Coastal Carolina led UTA 42-31.
The Mavericks opened up the second half with a quick three points but the Chanticleers responded, pushing their lead back into double digits.
Over the last six minutes of the game, Coastal Carolina limited UTA, outscoring the Mavericks 16-5.
