Sisters work way out of border town

Welcome to Maverick County.

No, it’s not a slogan or hashtag developed by UTA, but the home of Eagle Pass, Texas.

Eagle Pass sits on the Texas-Mexico border and serves as the county seat of Maverick County.

With a population of 26,248, it is also the home of senior infielder Sandra Mendoza and her sister, sophomore outfielder Melanie Mendoza.

Through hard work, determination and having a father who played professional baseball serving as a coach and mentor, the Mendoza sisters made their way out of the border town to UTA.

Their father, Reynol Mendoza, also grew up in Eagle Pass.
