The women's basketball team (15-14, 10-9) was missing two starters in senior forward Toma Zaleckaite and sophomore guard Cierra Johnson, but that didn’t stop them from picking up a 53-49 win over South Alabama (14-14, 10-9).
The offenses for both teams started slow as UTA took a 10-5 lead after one quarter of play.
The Lady Mavs got off to a good start in the second and increased their lead to 14-5. After that, the Jaguars took control going on a 15-0 run to take a 25-19 lead going into half.
UTA countered in the third with an 8-0 run to take back the lead at 36-34 thanks to an 11-point outburst in the third quarter by senior guard Amara Wainwright.
