Senior follows in father’s footsteps

After a long rain delay in a game against South Alabama, senior second baseman Darien McLemore and some of his teammates go to a Waffle House close to their hotel because it’s the only place open.

Former UTA outfielder Matt Shortall walks to the jukebox and puts on “Friends in Low Places,” by Garth Brooks, a song the team plays at Clay Gould Ballpark during home games.

“All the guys in Waffle House stopped eating and we were singing this song together,” McLemore said. “That’s probably the best memory that I have being on this team.”

Most baseball players cite a big game, a walk-off win or winning a conference championship, but not McLemore.
