Pitching leads UTA Mavericks to sixth consecutive win

The baseball team (10-9, 3-0) opened the first official day of spring with a 3-0 victory over Abilene Christian University, closing out a five-game home stand and tallying its sixth consecutive victory on Tuesday at Clay Gould Ballpark.

“Pitching, pitching, pitching, that’s two Tuesdays in a row we threw a shutout ball through nine,” head coach Darin Thomas said. “Six in a row is great. It's momentum, it gets our guys excited, it means we kind of righted the ship a little bit.”

Making his second start, freshman pitcher Cody Wernli stepped onto the mound and retired ACU in order to get the ballgame underway.
