Led by graduate student Nick Thornton, the men’s golf team claimed its first team co-title since 2011 at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate Tuesday at Hattiesburg Country Club in Mississippi.
UTA entered a playoff round for the tournament trophy with Sam Houston State University. The team finished the round at even par while Sam Houston shot 2-under-par to claim the trophy. The Mavericks concluded their season opener, posting scores of 285-289-283 for a final score of 5-over-par 857.
The Mavericks five-man line-up featured Thornton, junior Tanner Gore, freshman Paul Gonzalez and seniors Aaron Guanlao and Jake Greenspoon. Redshirt freshman Zach Cole competed in the event as an individual and his scores were not added to the team total.
