On the eve of Thanksgiving, the Mavericks (3-3) defeated Mount St. Mary’s (1-5) 80-71, Wednesday at College Park Center, to raise their record to 3-0 at home.
The Mavericks had a sluggish start to the game, recording four turnovers in the first four minutes and hitting just one of their first six shots. Then, junior forward Kevin Hervey picked up where he left off Monday and scored the first Maverick points off a deep wing 3-pointer.
After falling behind 6-0, the Mavericks used a 14-2 run to go up 14-8. Despite the Mountaineers shooting 55 percent in the first half, UTA escaped the first half with a 35-34 lead.
