After a season where the men’s basketball team finished third in the conference standings, the Mavericks are expected to finish higher this season.
In a preseason coaches’ poll, the men’s basketball team was picked to finish first in the Sun Belt Conference next season after receiving 140 out of 144 points. Of the 12 coaches in the conference, 10 of them gave UTA a first-place vote.
Reigning champion University of Arkansas at Little Rock placed second in the poll with 124 votes, followed by Georgia State with 114 points.
Last season, UTA finished with a program-high of 24 wins and set single-season records in points (2,672), assists (590) and 3-pointers (307).
