It was the first meet of the season, and track and field head coach John Sauerhage just wanted to get a good feel for his teams.
Little did he know, a few of the Mavericks had plans of setting the bar higher for the 2017 season.
In the first meet of her collegiate career, freshman pole vaulter Helen Felda set a new school record, clearing 4.07 meters in the pole vault.
Falda, who came to UTA from Rome, Italy, impressed Sauerhage.
"Helen was outstanding," he said in a text message to The Shorthorn.
