If Saturday night’s loss was any indication, the Sun Belt Championship won’t be a cake walk for the top-seeded Mavericks.
UTA (24-7, 14-4) fell to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (20-11, 10-8) 83-81 Saturday at the Cajundome.
The Mavericks built their lead as high as nine in the first half, but the Ragin’ Cajuns opened the second half with a 6-0 run to tie the game at 43.
After Louisiana went in front 48-47 three minutes into the second half, they never trailed the rest of the game.
The Ragin’ Cajuns built up an eight-point lead with 13 minutes to play, but a 3-pointer by senior guard Jalen Jones cut the deficit to one with seven minutes left.
