UTA continues, what is now, a four-game losing streak after being outscored in the second half by the Georgia Southern Eagles (9-12, 5-6 SBC) Thursday in Statesboro, Georgia.
UTA dropped to 14-7 overall and 5-5 in the Sun Belt conference after its 82-73 loss.
The Mavericks showed some defensive improvements, controlling the momentum in the first half outrebounding the Eagles 23-15 with a 34-27.
UTA's sophomore guard Kaelon Wilson logged 19 points and 11 rebounds, his first career double-double. Junior guard Jalen Jones had 24 points and junior forward Jorge Bilbao grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Mavs held the lead into the second half but turnovers allowed the Eagles to claw their way back into the game eventually securing the lead and never giving it back.
