The Mavericks toppled a Goliath and fell to David on Friday at Clay Gould Ballpark.
The UTA Mavericks baseball team took a split in an opening doubleheader as part of the Clay Gould Classic tournament beating nationally ranked No. 7 Oklahoma State Cowboys 3-2 in game one and losing to the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks 12-1 in game two.
Junior pitcher Joel Kuhnel opened the game with a walk and then turned around to retire the next 10 batters in a row against the Cowboys. Kuhnel looked strong throughout the contest pitching six innings giving up four hits, two walks and one unearned run on the day.
