The baseball team (18-17, 9-6) claimed bragging rights in its three-game series against Arkansas State University over the weekend at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Game No. 1: Arkansas State 6, UTA 4
Because of inclement weather on Friday, the first game in the series was played on Saturday afternoon.
In game one of the series, UTA trailed Arkansas State 6-0 through four innings. The Mavericks' first run of the ballgame came in the bottom of the fourth inning as junior infielder Noah Vaughan reeled in senior infielder Christian Hollie with an RBI groundout.
UTA snagged an additional run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
