Mamba forever: UTA honors the legacy of Kobe Bryant

Jason Nelms was in the middle of playing a basketball game when the news broke about Kobe Bryant’s untimely death.

The bombshell was felt among the spectators and those participating in the game to the point where they nearly called it off.

“You always have that, no cell phone, no distractions while you're playing a game,” said Nelms, head coach of the Lady Movin’ Mavs. “Halftime hit, I look around the gym and everybody on every team is on their phones.”

Bryant, 41, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others were killed in a helicopter crash Sunday in Calabasas, California.
