The women's basketball team(15-16) almost completed the upset against the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns (21-9) but didn’t have enough in a 59-53 loss.
Before the game, UTA received news that it would be without sophomore center Rebekah VanDijk because of an urgent family matter. She was accompanied by associate head coach Kristin Cole. VanDijk is the team leader in points per game (12.2), rebounds per game (8.9) and blocks per game (1.7).
The game got off to a rocky start as the Lady Mavs fell behind 7-0 to start the game. The Lady Mavs fought back to tie the game at 7-7 with less than five minutes to play.
