As senior forward Allyson Te'o walked off the court with the women's basketball team, down double figures in the final minutes of their Sun Belt Championship matchup against Troy University, there was no guarantee she would play another game as a Lady Maverick.
On Monday, UTA was one of 64 teams invited to play in the Women's National Invitation Tournament. The Lady Mavericks' first game in the tournament will be against Tulane University on Thursday in New Orleans.
"You never want a spring break when you're in Division I basketball," head coach Krista Gerlich said.
While the invitation provides a chance for Te'o and fellow senior guard Breck Clark to play at least one more postseason game, junior center Rebekah VanDijk said it gives the team an opportunity to gain momentum going into the offseason.
